A Tom and Jerry is a traditional Christmastime cocktail in the United States, devised by British journalist Pierce Egan in the 1820s. It is a variant of eggnog with brandy and rum added and served hot, usually in a mug or a bowl.
This creamy Christmassy cocktail remained popular throughout the twentieth century and featured in many in high profile American films between 1940 and 1960, not to mention William Hanna and Joseph Barbera’s world famous cat and mouse cartoon rivalry that was hugely well known during the same period; some say it is named after the Tom and Jerry cocktail itself.
